One thing an Irish Wedding will always need is a back up plan!  With our Irish weather you never know when it’s going to “Lash out of the heavens”.  Even in the months of July and August (Our supposed summer) you can’t take the sunshine for granted!  We have had a few very bad summers in the past 2 or 3 years, so booking your wedding at the height of July won’t necessary guarantee you sunshine on your special day.

Cake Toppers Ireland

Interview with Jill Fitzgerald from Cake Toppers Ireland

Its the detail that makes a wedding special.  One of my favourite details and a real center piece of the wedding day(After the brides dress of course) is the cake and the cake topper.  Jill Fitzgerald is the owner of a company called Cake Toppers Ireland.  She makes amazing cake toppers with fantastic detail.  Jill and her company, Cake Toppers Ireland was the 2009 winner of the WeddingsOnline.ie Best Industry Newcomer Award.  I caught up with Jill to get all the info about her cake toppers!

Q. Jill; tell us about your company and what made you start making cake toppers?

A. To be honest, I sort of stumbled across this business! – my background was in food, I had trained in Ballymaloe as a chef, and had a very small infrequent business catering from home when my children were very young – more recently I decided to specialise in Wedding Cakes, and I had a few requests to make cake toppers.  I submitted the business idea when I heard about RTE’s Higher Ground series in 2009 and I was fortunate enough to be selected– it’s a new series following and helping would-be entrepreneurs get their business ideas off the ground.   The response from the show was tremendous and I have been working in the business full-time, ever since!  I have dropped the Wedding Cakes part of the business due to the popularity of the Cake Toppers.

Green Wedding Venue’s In Ireland

Green Wedding Venues – Location Location Location

Brooklodge Church

Macreddin Hall

How do you pick a green wedding venue?

For all disconcerting brides and grooms, when you decide to have a green wedding or at least incorporate elements of Eco Chic into your dream wedding day, how do you go about it? Where do you start? I would start with your venue! The largest chunk of your budget, large or small will be on the wedding venue so make it count. How do you pick a green venue? Well it very much depends on your location. Think about where the majority of your guests are travelling from and try to minimise the travel impact. If both bride and groom are from the same location then pick a venue with a good environmental policy within that area. If the bride is from one end of the country and the groom is from the other, try meeting in the middle or choose the area where the majority of your guests are from. This will also make it easier for your guests.

The size of your wedding will also have a big impact on your venue as with smaller weddings you will have a larger choice. Also putting on a bus for your guest to get them to and from the venue will also minimise the impact of your special day on the environment. If you intend on having a civil ceremony why not have it in the same place as the reception. This will also give you more time on your wedding day to enjoy with your guests.

Wedding Bands Made Easy?

Hey There,

I find I am asked a lot about finding a wedding band, how will I go about looking for a band?  What will I look for?   What bands are good and reliable?  Will my guests like the music?  What music should I pick?  Understandably its a bit daunting as its a vital part of your celabrations and can make or break the evening of your perfect day.  It can be fantastic or a flop.  There are a lot of brilliant bands out there but how do you find them?  A lot of couples looking for a band for their wedding find it a bit of a nightmare.  So I went looking for a better solution for my wedding couples and found www.FindABand.ie.  This is a great site that will make looking for your wedding band a lot easier.  I got chatting with Daisy from www.FindABand.ie and this is what she had to say.

What is an Eco Chic Wedding?

What is an Eco-Chic or Green Wedding?

On my mission to make engaged couples more aware of Eco Friendly and Ethical Issues and to make Ireland’s wedding scene greener and more environmentally friendly I have been asked many times  what is an Eco or Green wedding?

Eco Chic Wedding

A Green Wedding or Eco Chic Wedding is one where thought has been given to the carbon footprint of the wedding and steps applied to reduce it.

Your average wedding will burn 63 tonnes of CO2 and will accumulate an average of 400-600 pounds of waste in one day.  Where an average family would burn 12 tonnes CO2 in a year!  So for one day, although it’s a very special day, this is still a costly fee for the earth to pay for one wedding.  Considering there are between 20,000 – 22,000 weddings in Ireland alone each year it starts to add up.  An Eco Wedding will try to reduce these averages as much as possible and there are many ways of doing this.

Welcome and Thank You

First and foremost I would like to thank you so much for reading my blog.  I hope you get a lot of value out of my posts.

My name is Linda McAllorum and I run a company called Perfect Irish Weddings.  We are an Eco Chic Wedding & Events company and as I write this we are the first and only one in Ireland.  We try to make each event we are part of more eco chic.

The Art of Eco Chic has been set up to help those needing inspiration and ideas for their wedding.  Hopefully you will find some very interesting tips and tricks on how to make one of the most important days of your life more eco & ethically friendly, but with a wow factor that your guest won’t forget.  It was also setup to give my poor fiancé a break from my ranting about everything weddings and the recycling!

My blog is not only about all things wedding or all things green wedding but also about green issues in general, it’s a subject very close to my heart.

So what is an Eco Chic wedding?  Come read and find out!
